O’s Notes: Saxophonist Tim Gordon and keyboardist David Shoff combine in the spotlight on Five Sax Seven Eight with Chris Allen (d) and Brad Wilcox (flugelhorn). Like the best smooth jazz recordings these songs are instantly recognizable with cool riffs and warm, rich sax on top. We liked “Short Life” and the passionate sax pleas on “Cool Breeze” in this brief 17-minute set. Give us side two!
