O’s Notes: 6X6 is a historic session of progressive jazz bringing together young and old musicians for a 2008 recording session in San Francisco. Eddie Gale (t, fl, p), David Boyce (t-sax, synth), Howard Wiley (t-sax, perc), Marcus Shelby (b), Darrell Green (d) and Pince Lasha (sax, fl, perc). We lost Lasha 2 months after the recording session and then Gale the month before the August 2020 long awaited release. Each musician contributed a composition and songs were recorded with one take, no overdubs! The spontaneous energy is abundant through the entire session. Our favorite is Lasha’s “Birds Brilliant Colors”.
