Joe Blessett, 2016, CD
Jazz Ruler Type: AcidJazz
O’s Notes: Joe stepped back from the live entertainment scene favoring the studio in contrast to many of his contemporaries. There is a generous use of electronics on the opening title track imparting a funky, eerie feel. That funky groove, layered vocalese and rap give 678AO11 a sense of fresh, urban sound. We enjoyed the groove on “For Eddie Smalls”, “Understanding Saturn” and “Back To Basics”. Blessett’s experimental contemporary jazz will capture a generous slice of the fusion/urban/acid/progressive jazz crowd with sticky beats and infectious groove.
