O’s Notes: Composer, producer, arranger, conductor vibraphonist Mike Thompson makes his debut with a plethora of guests on 6th Avenue. Thompson shows respect for tradition while also contributing four originals to the mix notably the title track featuring trumpeter Bijon Watson. Charlize Vermaak (vocals) and Jeff Classen (t) shine on “Let’s Do It”, the lone vocal track. We also enjoyed “Chega De Saudade” featuring Mark Shilansky (p) and Randy Pingney (tb).
