O’s Notes: We reviewed this CD on the eve of Black Friday October 10, 2008. With the financial markets melting down globally, we certainly could use a ‘Medical Cure…’ Westray (tb) wrote these ten selections intending to soothe listeners from the craziness of the inner city. Cutting to the chase: it is a fine elixir. The layered brass harmonies over the mid-tempo beats on “The Jiggy” are a preview of the entire set. There are funky, club backbeats underlying the relaxed groove of the session. It’s the musical equivalent of a good cup of tea.
