O’s Notes: Not many people expect to hear an accordion in a jazz recording or any other popular music in 2013. But producer Peter Maxymych wanted to recreate the sound of the Art Van Damme Quintet that was very popular in the 1960s-70s. Kenny Kotwitz (accordion) takes the lead here with Alec Walkington (b), Greg Clayton (g), Steve Hobbs (vibes) and Dave Laing (d) fleshing out the North American Jazz Alliance. John Labelle adds vocals. We found ourselves surprisingly engaged and really enjoyed the session.
