O’s Notes: Victor Gould is a new voice on the jazz scene and he enters with ambitious efforts coordinating a sextet and even strings with the help of veterans E.J Strickland (d) and Ben Williams (b). Trumpeter Jeremy Pelt adds sweet melodies along with Myron Walden on tenor sax. This is a swinging collection of modern jazz moving from mellow easy-going ballads to syncopated, punctuated, rhythmic concoctions that stimulate the mind and the spirit with a seamless flow. Among the best is “Apostle John “, a swinging tune with a little bit of adventure and lots of harmonized brass. Clockwork is a fine debut for Gould.
