O’s Notes: Live at NYU: 1980 is a free-jazz treasure recently unearthed and released (2022) by bassist, composer Steve Tintweiss. He leads the Spacelight Band with Charles Bracken (t-sax, s-sax), Byard Lancaster (a-sax, s-sax, fl, piccolo, b-cl), Lou Grassi (d, perc) and Genie Sherman (vocals). The band was in rare form playing new music on 11/8/1980 at NYU’s Loeb Student Center. There are 13 songs across two discs. It is truly melodic and rather memorable as recounted by admiring fans, a legendary performance.
