O’s Notes: Korean vocalist, composer, producer Hyeonseon Baek is now based in New York with a stop in the Netherlands in between. Baek cuts across genres with an endless stream of compassion on Longing. He’s backed by a solid band featuring bassist Linda May Han Oh, Kevin Hayes on piano, and drummer Jochen Rueckert. Lucas Pina sprinkles tenor sax on 4 selections notably “West 4th St”. Baek sings warm, gentle passages on “Black Narcissist”, “Longing”, “My Temptation”, “Lush Life”, and “A Timeless Place”. This is a worthy debut!
