O’s Notes: Drummer Bruce Jackson leads a trio with Nicolas Bayak (b) and Bob Himmelberger (p) through eight classic jazz tunes. They open with a cool arrangement of Shorter’s “Footprints” that culminates with Jackson’s drum solo. Himmelberger burns up the keys on “Rhythm-A-Ning” and “Picadilly Lilly” while Bayak walks his bass through the changes with an understated confidence that complements the groove. The band cruises through the changes and keeps us fully engaged patting our feet all the way through before settling down to a peaceful ending on “My Ship”.
