O’s Notes: This is a treasure in the Mingus discography. Mingus considered it one of his greatest works. It was released for the first time in 1962 but was recorded in 1957. The collection of five songs creates Charles’ view of Tijuana at the time. He captures the local flavors and translates them to music. We liked the contrasts presented in “Los Mariachis”. The Bonus track “A Colloquial Dream” is worth to price of the CD alone! This is yet another example of the genius of the late Mingus remastered for optimum enjoyment with modern sound systems.
