O’s Notes: Bassist Roberto Ochipinti leads a fine large ensemble on A Bend in the River, his latest release. The program has mostly spunky modern jazz originals like “Umbria” along with a couple of covers. The orchestration on “Naima” is excellent with a lush string section bathing us with splendor. We also enjoyed the cool vibe of the title track and “Marta” with a rousing drums solo from Dafnis Prieto. Ochipinti is on target with this CD!
