O’s Notes: Pianist composer and bandleader Bill O’Connell serves up a welcomed plea with A Change Is Gonna Come with 7 originals of the 10 selections. Bassist Lincoln Goins’s and drummer Steve Jordan assert themselves on the opener “Moment’s Notice” with rousing solos. Bill is graceful on the title track featuring saxophonist Craig Handy, then jovial on “Sweet Peanut” with another fine bass solo by Goines. We also enjoyed “Chaos” with Latin percussion from Pedro Martinez and a taste of gospel on “A Prayer For Us”.
