O’s Notes: A Foreign Affair takes Spyro Gyra into a number of different music forms but always integrated with their time-tested jazz-fusion. There are a few vocal tracks. We liked “Chileno Boys” with Julio Fernandez singing and “Last Call” featuring Keb’ Mo’. We enjoyed the mild bossa nova beats of “Samba for Two”, “Canão de Ninar” and “Antigua”. The blending Latin jazz with their trademark contemporary smooth jazz is a fresh combination that works well. “Sweet Ole Thang” is another winner and tops off another winning effort for this seasoned band.
