O’s Notes: Ahmed Abdullah is an American jazz trumpeter, educator and composer, an alumnus of the Sun Ra Arkestra. His latest work is Diaspora Meets AfroHorn, Jazz: A Music of the Spirit, Out of Sistas’ Place. Diaspora means Dispersions of the Spirit of Ra. AfroHorn is a group conceived by Fransisco Mora Catlett, a multi-percussion/composer. Together they make a collection of jazz-fusion including spoken word by Monique Ngozi Nri, Abdullah’s wife, on “Eternally Spiraling Spirit”. There’s a message in the music and in the word culminating on “Reminiscing” featuring bassist Ben Judah.
