O’s Notes: Spanish jazz violinist Apel-Les Carod was initially trained in classical music before he migrated to jazz, a platform that allowed him to fully express himself, and he does so passionately on Abismes I Flors. There’s a symphonic, chamber jazz feel here owed to the instrumentation. Carod performs with Max Villavexchia (p), Manel Fortis (b) and Josep Cordobeés (d) in an engaging session of eight originals.
