O’s Notes: Canadian drummer Ernesto Cervini’s sextet, Turboprop features Tara Davidson (a-sax, s-sax), Joel Frahm (t-sax), William Caen (tb), Adrian Farrugia (p) and Dan Loomis (b). They all emerge at different times centered on Cervini’s lively, pronounced work on the skins. “Tadd’s Delight” and “My Shining Hour” are fine examples of the collaborative efforts. We also enjoyed “The Ten Thousand Things” by Farrugia and Cervini’s “Song For Cito” dedicated to Cito Gaston who led the Toronto Blue Jays to two MLB championships. There’s a lot going on in Toronto!
