O’s Notes: Pianist and composer Oscar Perez leads Nuevo Comienzo, his working band of seven years. They are well integrated and share the spotlight on many occasions. We particularly enjoyed the work of trumpeter Greg Glassman on “A New Day Emerging” and “The Illusive Number”. The music is generally upbeat but they also include a warm ballad “As Brothers Would”. Charlene Wade adds vocalizations to enhance “The Afropean Suite”, a vibrant set of three songs. This is a solid outing that pulsates with energy all the way through.
