O’s Notes: Alexis has a polished delivery with rich, warm, dark tones. She sings eleven classic tunes in just over an hour on her self-titled release. The arrangements are fresh, relaxed and transformative. She sings in front of two distinctive trios. The first features David Berkman (p), Drew Gress (b) and Matt Wilson (d). The second has Arturo O’Farrill (p), Jonathan Gilley (b) and Willard Dyson (d). Of note are an unusual takes of “Summertime”, “Devil May Care” and “Organ Grinder”.
