O’s Notes: Composer Alex Hamburger plays flute and sings on her debut And She Spoke. She leads a quartet with co-producer, pianist José Luiz Martins, bassist Doug Weiss and drummer Chase Kuesel. We like Hamburger’s flute work on the instrumentals “Unconditional Love”, “What’s Your Story Morning Glory” and “Burning The Letters”. We also liked “Last Chance Lost”. The music is dedicated to all of the strong women in Hamburger’s life including Toni Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Maya Angelou, Geri Allen and both grandmothers who were compassionate matriarchs at home as well as in the community.
