O’s Notes: Jack has a raspy, baritone voice that bodes well with this collection of bluesy ballads. He gets strong support from a large ensemble that includes the late Joey DeFranceso playing his signature organ as well as playing solos on trumpet and tenor saxophonist. The recording is dedicated to Joey (1971-2022). The rest of the rhythm section is Jeff Hamilton (d), Tamir Hendelman (p), Graham Dechter (g), and Jon Hamar (b). There is a wealth of brass, reeds, and huge string section. Highlights are “Not While I’m Around”, “At Last”, and “If Love Is Overrated”.
