O’s Notes: Sona Jobarteh is a Gambian multi-instrumentalist, singer, and composer. She also plays the kora, a harp-like instrument that is prominent in West Africa. Badinyaa Kumoo is centered around a rhythmic, popular, African vibe that resonated with us. We liked “Dunoo” with Musa Filly Jobarteh, “Kambengwo” featuring Youssou N’dour, “Ubntu”, “Gambia”, and “Nna Kangwo” with Jock Webb (harmonica), and Nna Mooya” featuring Kirk Whalum (sax). The liner notes are excellent with detailed notations for each selection.
