O’s Notes: Trumpeter Jonathan Powell leads a straight ahead jazz band called nu Sangha. The musicians are close associates who share his passion for the music including his older brother, saxophonist Jeremy Powell. Jonathan wrote and produced all eight vibrant selections. The most influential people in Jonathan’s life inspire the music on Beacons of Light. We enjoyed the tranquil, insightful vibe on “Biocentrism” and “The Vision” along with the upbeat groove on “Mawlana” and “Lifetime”. The tones are rich and the music has depth that fills the sound stage. It is a good effort.
