O’s Notes: Volker plays guitar and Randy breathes vocalese into the mix on Beyond Borders, a collection of eleven Smooth Jazz tunes. They open with a refreshingly cool “Ciao Bella”. The session is mostly Latin grooves but there are also several contemporary jazz tunes that blend in nicely. We liked the funky, mysterious groove on “White Cloud, Black Thunder”, the relaxed ballad “Love Letters – The Story of Abelard and Heloise” and the festive “Fun In The Sun” best in an invigorating set.
