O’s Notes: Beyond the Sea is Japanese vocalist Masumi Ormandy’s latest encounter, including a wealth of guest artists. She has warm tones and sounds better when singing in her native tongue. Ormandy is backed by a solid trio with arranger Allen Farnham (p), Dean Johnson (b), and Tim Horner (d). Danny Bacher (s-sax) adds vocals on “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love, Baby”. Mino Cinelu (perc), Chieli Minucci (g), Tim Ries (s-sax), Bria Skonberg (t), Sara Caswell (violin), John Allred (tb), and Houston Person (t-sax), are some of the many polished musicians joining the party. The magic here, is in the music.
