O’s Notes: Venezuelan bassist Chris Mondak shifts from his typical hard bop to more of a contemporary groove on Blank With Colour. Ryan Brasley (d) lays down cool, funky beats behind the melodies of saxophonist Dan Hitchcock. Pianist Gabe Feldman and guitarist Jack Macklin step up with fusion-laced solos on “Begetting”. Mondak delivers a taste of reggae on “Walking On Sunshine”, one of his eight original tunes. We also enjoyed the cover of “Affirmation” featuring Macklin.
