O’s Notes: Blue Balkin was originally released in 1980, a blend of Mid-Eastern, Arabian music with traditional, Afro-American jazz. Vuckovich revisits the scene today adding four new compositions. Drummer Eddie Marshall and violinist Eric Golub perform with Larry in both bands and their contributions are noteworthy. Larry’s work on piano is dazzling and complemented nicely by guest artist Bobby Hutcherson (vibes) on the original session. Bobby played from his heart vs. a sheet of music and listeners can feel his emotions. The original was somewhat provocative and this update should be well received. We certainly enjoyed it.
