O’s Notes: Saxophonist, composer Paul Carlon leads a quintet with Eddie Allen on trumpet, bassist Harvie S., pianist Helio Alves, and Willie Martinez on drums. They mix jazz tradition with Carlin’s, modern jazz originals with tastes of Latin and R&B flavors. Blues For Vita is dedicated to Paul’s wife Levita who is illustrated on the CD cover. “Colored Paper”, “Dee Dot”, “Isabel The Liberator”, and the titled track are some the best in a strong set.
