O’s Notes: Jazz pianist Kemuel Roig goes solo for his latest release, Both Sides Now, a collection of a dozen reimagined classics, all focused on love. “The Peacocks”, “Besame Mucho”, “Contigo Aprendi”, and “Windmills of Your Mind” are highlights in a set that soothes subtlety, touching several emotions along the way. He plays the songs by feel rather than the prescribed tempo to capture distinct nuance and character of the lyrics. You can’t escape from his prowess, but the focus is more on musicality, and it resonates well! The music is supported by excellent liner notes.
