O’s Notes: Brand New Key is the sophomore release from jazz vocalist Jeffrey Gimble. He’s surrounded by talented musicians/friends who elevate his experience. Producer Josh Nelson (organ, p), Larry Koonse (g), Dan Lutz (b), Dan Schnelle (d) and Talley Sherwood (SFX) provide a strong foundation for Gimble to build upon. The ten songs are familiar; all cast in Gimble’s signature with a relaxed pace. The title track, “Tryin Times” and “Quietly There” are the best of the lot.
