O’s Notes: Pianist, composer Cliff Korman has been a student, teacher and lover of Brazilian music for years. Indeed, he is Brasilified leading a trio with Augusta Mattoso (b), Rafael Barata (d) and guest saxophonist Paulo Levi on two selections notably “As Rosas Não Falange”, that also includes a fine bass solo from Mattoso. Korman’s work on piano combines well with Barata’s beats on “Viola Violar”, “Triste” and throughout the session, mostly fresh arrangements of Brazilian classics surrounding Korman’s title track.
