O’s Notes: Trumpeter, composer Erik Jekabson leads a large ensemble on Breakthrough, his latest endeavor. We enjoyed the warm relaxing tones on “The Whisperer” featuring guitarist Jeffrey Burr and bassist Dan Feiszli, “A Centered Vibe” featuring Dillon Vado (vibes), the adventurous “Above The Clouds”, “Into The Jungle 1-3”, and the jovial “Speedway Meadow” with vocal shadowing by Becca Burlington and Alexis Lane Jensen. Other notable contributions come from Mads Tolling (violin), Charity Premawardhana (viola), Mary Fertig (fl), Matt Renzi (cl, sax, oboe), and Jeff Cressman (tb), all contributing to a rich experience.
