O’s Notes: Cuban drummer, composer and educator Dafnis Prieto combines forces with Brazilian vocalist Luciana Souza in an explosive session on Cantar. They are supported by Peter Apfelbaum (Woodwinds, perc), Martin Bejerano (p, vocals), and Matt Brewer (b). The blending of the two Latins cultures results in a beautiful expression that includes Prieto’s usual energy and Souza’s soft passion on “When I Miss You” and “Sueño de Amor”. We enjoyed the playful interplay and scatting on “To The Concert”. This is Prieto’s first incorporation of lyrics (in Spanish, Portuguese and English) into his regime and hopefully not his last!
