O’s Notes: Opening with “Tenor Madness”, they swing happily into the celebratory mood of the event. This party was actually a three day event held during March, 1995 in Dearfield Beach, FL. Flip selected 18 musicians to play with him including Phil Woods (sax), Randy Sandke (t), DIck Hyman (p), Howard Alden (g) and Milt Hinton (b). Phillips plays on every song and has the spirit and energy, at 80 years old, to propel the other musicians to a very good performance. He died in August 2001 but left us a lot of good music to remember him by. This is one such recording.
