O’s Notes: This celebration of the legendary composer Gil Evens features a wealth of great musicians performing newly released manuscripts from the Evans family vaults. The conductor is Ryan Truesdell. The pieces were composed and/or arranged by Evans during the 1940s-1960s incorporating a variety of moods and styles. The players are numerous including Steve Wilson (as), Kate McGarry (vocals) Dave Pietro (fl), Marshall Gilkes (tb), Frank Kimbrough (p), Lewis Nash (d), Donny McCaslin (ts) and many others. The sound quality is exceptional presenting music that would have left Gil very pleased. The music is like a cinema soundtrack illustrating different moods and passages, beautiful!
