O’s Notes: Trombonist bandleader, producer Michael Dease is back in action on City Life, his third album dedicated to the music of Gregg Hill. It is a 2-disc encounter featuring two distinct configurations. The first is a trio set with Linda May Han Oh (b) and Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts (d). These ten selections are earthly. The second takes a more swinging groove adding Nicole Glover (sax) and Geoffrey Keezer (p) to the mix. We preferred the latter notably “Grave Concerns”, “Rainy Afternoon”, “Enigma”, and “Lafayette Square”.
