O’s Notes: Vocalist, pianist, composer Patricia Barber takes an different approach on Clique! her latest recording. She reimagines eight classic tunes with only one of her own. Barber tunes the covers to her temperament, a shade darker than usual. Patrick Mulcahy (b), Jon Deitemyer (d), Neil Alger (g) and Jim Gailloreto are the supporting cast. “One Note Samba”, “Straight No Chaser” and “The In Crowd” are notable. The music is very good and the audio is absolutely sumptuous, an SACD that is a reference for audiophiles, an honest representation of the performance. Hats off to engineer Jim Anderson for getting it right!
