O’s Notes: Bassist Rodney Whitaker turned 50 on February 22, 2019 and“Common Ground“is the first of five releases planned to commemorate his Golden Jubilee. It is a warm club set featuring vocalist Rockelle Fortin on half of the eight selections, all composed by Gregg Hill and arranged by Whitaker. Terell Stafford (t), Tim Warfield (sax), Bruce Barth (p) and Dana Hall (d) form a strong team behind him. The equal mixture of instrumentals and vocal tracks keeps things well balanced, culminating with a hard swinging ‘Remembrance‘.
