O’s Notes: Drummer, bandleader Pat Petrillo presents an energizing set of eleven contemporary jazz songs on Contemporaneous, his latest endeavor. He invites a large group of musicians, playing in different configurations. Guitarists Oz Noy, Chieli Minucci & Nile Rogers, and bassist Scott Ambush lead the charge. They span the contemporary side of our Jazz Ruler with a lot of head-bobbers. “Summer In Philly” with Will Donato (sax, fl) reminded us of the late Grover Washington, Jr. We also enjoyed the rocking “On The Regular”, “Dirty Jerez”, the funky “Sunset Sound Studio 2”, and groovin’ “Weekend Vibe”.
