O’s Notes: Guitarist Gordon Grdina presents his quartet on“Cooper’s Park“for five extended, engaging, free flowing jazz-fusion encounters. The band is Russ Lossing (p), Oscar Noriega (a-sax, b-cl), Satoshi Takeishi (d) and Grdina (g, oud). The musicians fuel off of each other’s energy giving each track a variety of feelings. Things do get chaotic from time to time but never fall off of the edge. The title track is a prime example. Don’t be too quick to skip to the next track as the chapters within each song could catch your fancy. Even with those promising intricacies, free jazz is not for everyone, however Gordon serves up a recording that will bode well for lovers of this genre.
