O’s Notes: It is hard to argue that the catalogue of tunes by Hal David & Burt Bacharach is among the best in popular music. Similarly Fred Fried is a very talented guitarist, arranger and producer. The combination on Core Bacharach is more than a collection of easy-listening instrumental chord melodies. Fried invites Michael Lavoie (b) and Miki Matsuki (d) to perform his recreation of eleven classics. From “What’s New Pussycat?” to “Walk On By” to “Alfie” the trio successfully ushers the great composers songs into 2013. This is a ‘can’t miss’ for guitar lovers.
