O’s Notes: Corpo is the latest from the established free jazz duo of pianist Matthew Shipp and saxophonist Ivo Perelman. Somehow they manage to build upon all things past touching a wide range of emotions and stimulate their audience. The titles (Parts 1-12) are much less creative than the works suggesting that not a lot of thought went into them. It wouldn’t matter if that were also true for the music as both musicians thrive on spontaneity. Ivo and Matthew feel Corpo is their best yet and certainly there is a lot of emotion packed into the package. Avant Garde fans will be thrilled while it may remain a stretch for the larger jazz audiences.
