O’s Notes: Canadian producer, radio host Cory Weeds is also a proven tenor saxophonist. He picks up his horn to duel fellow tenor saxophonist Jerry Weldon on Cory Weeds Meets Jerry Weldon. They perform in front of a solid rhythm section with Miles Black (p), John Lee (b), and Jesse Cahill (d). They waste no time getting down to business swinging on the opener “Hey Lock!” and they never let up. While the headliners handle most of the melodies all the musicians shine. It’s straight-ahead jazz with lots of feeling, mostly standard tunes and one original from Weeds.
