O’s Notes: Japanese free jazz pianist Satoko Fujii and her husband, trumpeter, producer Natsuki Tamura return to their explosive, Vulcan quartet for Dog Days of Summer. Hayakawa Takeharu (b) and Tatsuya Yoshida (d) join them. While they maintain the chaotic momentum that they’ve established on their free jazz productions, this is one of the more melodic and embraceable encounters that we’ve listened to. “A Parcel For You” has a fusion bent featuring Takeharu. We enjoyed the percussion on “Circle Dance” & “Haru Wo Matsu”, and the chase on “Metropolitan Expressway” featuring Tamura.
