O’s Notes: This time around they are playing Mingus tunes, six of his best including “Tijuana Gift Shop” and “Los Mariachis”. LCJO is more than just Wynton Marsalis (t). Among the other band members are Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson (sax), Ted Nash (sax), Lew Soloff (t) and Marcus Printup (t). This brass is strong and arranger Ron Westray’s (tb) take on Mingus is fresh.
