O’s Notes: Master guitarist, George Barnes is joined by Dean Reilly (b), Benny Barth (d) and Duncan Jones (g) on this live set. It is newly found treasure from a 1977 session in Concord, CA. They play with a joyful, swinging bounce that makes you pat your feet and smile. The music parallels the mood – songs like “Three Little Words”, “Theme from the Flintstones” and “Perdido” are all done well. Barnes’ work on guitar is well articulated and smooth and the trades with James are seamless. This is an excellent sampling of one the first electric jazz guitarists.
