O’s Notes: Doorways is a collection of thirteen songs, each a free expression of the mind through instrumentation. The cast is limited to two or three musicians that keep the music clear and comprehensible. The duets are all piano [Pieranunzi] and drums [Paul Motian]. The chemistry of the duo is good and they blend well together even in free form. Guest artist Chris Potter (sax) joins for three strong selections, notably the title track. Enrico composed all of the songs, a few with assistance from Motian. We found many of the doors were accessible for the adventurous mind.
