O’s Notes: Lots of artists make recordings of classic covers, standards that we all enjoy. But sometimes there’s a recording where the artist puts their heart and soul into the performance and makes it their own. Such is the case with Rose Mallett on Dreams Realized, eleven classic, bluesy, ballads that resonated with us. “The Snake”, “Rock Me Baby”, “Ain’t Nobody”, and “Feeling Good” are among the best. Mallett’s range, depth, and well paired instrumentation make it click. particularly with Nolan Shaheed (t) on “My Funny Valentine” and Yvette Devereaux (violin) on “Send In The Clowns”.
