O’s Notes: Dawn of Midi is a trio with bassist Aakaash Israni, drummer Qasim Naqvi, and the pianist Amino Belyamani. They play acoustic instruments made to sound like electronic techno-music. That is the creative aspect of the performance. Israni plays without cymbals and Belyamani mutes the notes of the piano with one hand. Their music is somewhat reminiscent of Germany’s Kraftwerk in the 1970s, a true electronic band. The repetitive tones and patterns of electronic music are indeed creative and an act of endurance!
