O’s Notes: Guitarist Gene Ess composed and produced the music for Eternal Monomyth, a rich jazz-fusion album. John Escreet plays piano with bassist Thomas Kneeland and drummer Clarence Penn anchoring a tight rhythm section. Thana Alexa adds rich vocalese to smooth things out and add another layer of depth. We especially enjoyed the oriental feel on “Forsaken Island” and the solid groove on “Drakaina”, “Entrance/Exit” and “Blues for Ryo”. This is a cooking set that will keep your pulse racing.
